What's Trending for Spring 2018

What’s Trending for SPRING 2018

Spring is a season we all look forward to as it’s a fresh start to the new year and a time to re-introduce color back into our wardrobe! Cozying up all winter long was fun while it lasted, but we’re ready to ditch those jackets, throw on some sandals and have some fun in the sun! Now that the new Spring 2018 fashions have officially been introduced, here are a few takeaways you can expect to see trending at Lotus Boutique this Spring Season:

Trend #1: Color Palette

What do you anticipate most for each new fashion season? New styles and trends, of course, but just as much so, we are excited to see the new season’s color palette. Each season is defined by a leading lineup of trending Pantone colors brought to life through fashion designer’s runway collections. What we love about the spring color palette this year is the use of brighter, distinctive colors, rather than the typical pastel line up. Bright cherry tomato red and meadowlark, a lighter shade of mustard, are two Pantone colors we’re currently crushing on. With Ultra Violet being the color of the year, fashion designers expanded on the purple spectrum and flooded the runway with additional lively, yet lighter hues such as lavender and lilac. From vintage floral to graphic art, bold and fun prints also adorned the runway highlighting vibrant colors combos, such as lime punch and arcadia. Why so colorful this spring? Straight from the source, the Pantone Color Institute shares insight into their color palette selection, “Untypical spring shades that make for complex and original combinations expand the opportunity for self-expression and communicate the consumer desire to experiment with color all year round.” These saturated shades are going to brighten up our wardrobe and inspire us to put together outfits that will pack a punch all season long!

Trend #2: Sleeve Details

If there was one take-away from this season’s runway, it’s the emphasis on sleeve detail! Whether a voluminous puff or a fluttery flare, sleeves that make a statement are the name of game again this season. Now we love a strong, dominant puff sleeve, but after falling in love with the variations of bell sleeves last year, we’re really digging the flowy vibe for spring. Nothing says spring like a touch of frill. Ruffle sleeves covered the runway in a variety of styles. Ruffles that spiral down the arm or tiers of ruffles in varying layers add just enough girly detail to take your outfit from drab to fab instantly! Another sleeve we love, flounce sleeves are ultra-feminine and chic and a must-have in just about every shape and form! Bold butterfly and flutter sleeves make a huge fashion statement with very little effort. Opt for a smaller statement sleeve with the tulip sleeve; not only is the name fitting, but the style is too! Sleeves that tie at the elbow or wrist, drape off the shoulder or mix in other fabrics like lace or eyelet are other trending styles whose sleeve detail will keep your wardrobe feeling fresh and new this spring!

Trend #3: Tie Front Tops

A trend that’s been on the rise, the tie front top is one of the hottest looks this spring season! Oh so fun & chic, making a fashion statement is utterly simple with a tie front top. Easily paired with a maxi skirt, wide-leg pants, jeans, denim skirt or cutoffs, the tie front top comes in many styles to complete your look. Blousy fabrics with flounce sleeves create a beautifully breezy look layered over a lace bralette and paired with high-waist jeans. Tie front button-downs layered over a bathing suit top with cutoff shorts make a cute cover-up outfit for spring break. There are essentially so many ways to style this trend and with many tops available already tied, this look couldn’t be any easier!

Trend #4: Two-Piece Sets

A style we can’t get enough of, the two-piece matching set made its début again this season and is more fashionable than ever! Before we jump into full-on summer shorts sets, spring specific sets gear towards weather appropriate styles, such as longer sleeves and pants. One of the trendiest looks for spring are both a top and pant/top and maxi skirt combo, giving the appearance of a jumpsuit/maxi dress with a little skin. As versatile as they come, the matching set has the ability to transform into other looks by mixing and matching pieces from your own closet. This versatility gives us the option to go all out with a bright and bold head to toe print! A statement making outfit you need (at least) one of in your closet this spring. We’re excited to follow this trend into summer because it is, after all, one of our favorite looks of all time!

Trend #5: Kimonos & Wraps

Always a stylish way to layer your spring outfit, the classic kimono is taking center stage this year as the ★star★ of your ensemble. Kimonos are stepping it up a notch this season with bolder colors, variety of patterns, and trendy trim details such as fringe, tassels, and lace. A look we love is pairing a colorful floral kimono over a neutral top and white jeans. The versatility of the kimono is also highlighted as we’ve seen them tied around the waist, draped over the shoulders and just simply worn and knotted in the front. In contrast to the current strong shoulder trend, the lightweight, breezy kimono softens the silhouette and adds a fanciful feminine style option for spring. Another look we love is pairing a sheer or all lace off-white kimono over a solid colored top and denim shorts or jeans. A kimono can also function as a glam bathing suit cover-up… time to start shopping for spring break? We say YES!

Trend #6: Platform Sandals

Platform sandals were seen all over the runway this season and have been labeled the hottest must-have accessory for spring and summer 2018! The versatility of being able to wear with any style outfit and practicality of being comfortable enough to wear all day make platform sandals one of our favorite trends this season. From lace-up espadrilles to strappy detail wedges, you can find a range of platform styles to complement your casual and dressy spring looks. Fun embellishments such as fringe, tassels & beading and funky materials such as floral print fabrics, metallic leathers & cork are additional trendy options to add extra flair to your outfit. Platform sandals are also a great way to add height to your long and flowy maxi dresses and wide-leg pants. Although we’re currently crushing on these rose gold beauties, we have other platform sandal styles to choose from and more to come all season long!
